1-13-15 Fishing Report

Snook fishing is steady producing awesome sight fishing along flats, sea walls and docks. Small jigs and live baits entice snook to strike. Snook are schooled up at times, ranging in size from 2 to 15 pounds. Top water action with heedon spooks producing nice fish from 5 to 20 pounds, slow presentation prevails. Night fishing is a blast right now, plenty of action for all angler with live baits, fly and jigs.

Tarpon action in back bays and canals is fantastic all through the day. The tarpon are in pods and many of the fish can be seen attacking the live baits on the surface. Doa jigs worked on the bottom entice strikes pearl and gold and glow have been the best colors. Tarpon are averaging 10 to 20 pounds.

Sea trout are chewing like wild fire. Grass flats and drop offs from depths of 4 to 10 feet are holding schoolie trout and big gator trout as well. Artificial lures like a fluke or DOA cal in dark colors excellent choices. Live baits under a cork provide explosive strikes.

Grass flats are full of lady fish, bluefish, jacks, trout and sheepshead. Live baits drifted with a cork best bet. Shrimp or jigs tipped with shrimp another great method to get the rod bent.

Lake Okeechobee is producing great fishing early morning and evening on soft plastics. Doa jerk baits and airheads worked over grass beds provoke strikes consistently. Watching bass come up and hit baits is the best. Those anglers looking to live bait shiners under a cork produces good numbers of bass but also the biggest fish as well. The peacock bass are very active along seawalls and shorelines in local lakes and canals. The peacock are very aggressive as they chase down flies, soft plastics and live bait in there path.
